And…yet another drop-side crib recall

Pottery Barn is voluntarily recalling ALL of their drop-side cribs. Standard CPSC release can be found here.
I think by now you know my feelings on these cribs — but if you don’t — DO NOT BUY A DROP-SIDE CRIB. If you must for physical reasons, then please make sure to purchase any and all of the hardware updates available.

It took 36 deaths over a period of nearly three years to get some government action, but I won’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Even one infant death is appalling to me, but when is an issue like this a trend due to structure versus one-time accidents? (Although – it was not hard not to miss all those drop-side crib recalls.) Thankfully, the new rule will call for improvements in not only drop-side crib, but ANY and ALL cribs where safety might be an issue.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A FIXED SIDE CRIB ON THIS LIST — it is made by Child Craft (conveniently out of business) and is the first on the list when you get to the page — it is also the picture in this post.

Graco Drop Side Crib Recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued another drop side crib recall, this time for a wide variety of models sold under the Graco brand name, but made by LaJobi. You can see all the models here.
As I posted, drop side cribs are on my Bad Things list for this reason. Drop side cribs are recalled at a fairly regular rate, which makes me wonder why companies continue to produce them (although these started selling back in 2007). If you are a new parent reading this — steer clear of drop side cribs unless it is an absolute necessity. More >
Drop Side Cribs

Drop side cribs definitely make my list of Bad Things. The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission has posted another crib recall (click here for recall notice from USCPSC)- and it is not surprising that drop side cribs are involved. Please note that this recall involves both drop side AND non-drop side cribs, but as you can read, the issue is mainly the drop side versions.
