..make birthdays and holidays as special for my son as they were for me. As we sit between his real first birthday, his birthday party (fake first birthday), and Easter, I am thinking back to the excitement I had on Sunday morning coming down the steps to a basket of chocolate and toys…and of course the instant dread of knowing it also meant going to church was just around the corner, so the bounty delivered by Peter Cottontail would have to wait.

Our son is eleven months old and amazingly, we have avoided bloodshed for the most part. He is now pulling himself up on things and taking steps, so we are fully aware that bumps ‘n’ blood are just around the corner. The beauty of things for the Daddy Blogger is that I wasn’t the one watching him when he had his first band-aid-required cut. As dads, we are typically the ones portrayed in the media as not watching our kids and telling them to “shake it off” when something happens. Not this time…oh, not this time.
