I just happen to be starting with some that I like since I have them on hand.

I think likes and dislikes are important here as it can play a role in a review. My drink of choice is a peaty scotch like Laphroaig or Ardmore. I am still working my way through the shelves of bourbons, but on the whole, I find them a bit sweet — presumably due to the level of corn in the mix.

For those that like a similar peaty taste profile, Bulleit Bourbon is a decent transitional bourbon. It has a kick at 90 proof and a decent oaky taste — which is why it interests me. Typically, I don’t care about the bottle since the spirit is what I want and not the glass, but after just watching the entire Deadwood series from HBO from start to finish, the bottle has an old time styling that is appealing for this reason (and makes sense since on the label it calls itself a “frontier whiskey”).

Bulleit is ultimately a product of Diageo.

I can’t say that it has a certain taste profile that will wow you — I can only say that for a bottle of Irish Whiskey in the low $20 range, it is worth having in your rotation of spirits. I kept it as my house whiskey for a long time — and only made a switch to shake things up a bit. All I can say is that it’s whiskey — it’s Irish — and it’s decently smooth.

I will cover my new house whiskey at a later date. I never thought I would have it in my house, much less drink it on a regular basis…but I never thought I would do a lot of things I am doing now.

I originally bought it on a recommendation from a friend and have kept it as my house gin ever since. It is one of three offerings from The Philadelphia Distilling Company (I will cover the other two products at a later date). It is extremely smooth and very reasonably priced (around the same price point as your Bombays and Tanquerays).

This is a small batch gin done in a hand-hammered copper pot still. It can be enjoyed in a martini or with tonic. Either way, I can guarantee you will enjoy it.
