Little Tikes Cozy Coupe | TheDaddyBlogger.comAs our son’s first birthday approaches, I went out in search of a present. Why? I have no idea. He has more toys than he knows what to do with — and typically doesn’t even play with them, opting for a plastic container filled with kid-safe items from the kitchen. Most of the toys are hand-me-downs from various relatives and friends — so, needless to say, we have a lot of toys.

I went on a search anyway since I have never really gotten him anything and I wanted to get him something cool (which definitely falls in the category of “dad’s responsibility”). Moms do an okay job on the toy front, but I think they miss the cool factor. I thought it was inherent to moms, but after a trip to the toy aisle, I figured out that it isn’t their fault. The toy aisle is geared to dads and kids. There are more lights and sounds than NYC on NYE. I was in the store for one purpose — since I had already picked out the toy online — but I still walked around pushing buttons for nearly an hour. Of course this was to make sure the products are safe for our son…you can never be too careful.

Anyway, I picked up the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe (30th Anniversary Edition) for the kid. There was an article on MSNBC.com about the Cozy Coupe and how it is one of the few toys still made in America (the article states that based on Commerce Department estimates, nearly 95% of toys sold in 2007 were imported). If you want to read it, you can find it here. I didn’t buy it for this reason — I just thought it was cool (plus the kid in the pic seems happy with it, so it has to be good, right?) — and then came up with an idea for his new play space we are planning, but more on that in a future post…needless to say…it’s cool.
